PINEHAVEN FIRE DISTRICT #17
Updated: 12-14-2006      Ken Hoffman

The Pinehaven fire district was recognized in 1995 and is located about 13 miles south of Gallup on highway 602 and about 8 miles off to the east of state highway 602. It's nearest district is Vanderwagon (district #4) which is 15 miles to the south on state road 602. Pinehaven is set in a nice wooded (probably leading to the name "Pinehaven") rural and quite area very close to the Nutrina Lakes.  The terrain is wooded and rolling hills, dirt roads in most areas.  Pinehaven received it's fire truck in 1995 which was transferred from Whispering Cedars (district #11) after Whispering Cedars received a brand new 1995 Becker.  Pinehaven also received a rescue transferred from Crownpoint in 1997. The original station was a barn until the new station was built. The station was marked for completion in September of 1996 at a allocated cost of $224,000.00 however the station was finally completed in late September 1997 and dedicated on October 19th 1997 with a dedication party that included great food and a great turnout.

With the building of the new station, Pinehaven has upgraded it's ISO standing which was a goal of the station members.  Pinehaven was slow to "take off" however this is not due to it's members or their dedication and enthusiasm, the wheels of Government just turned slowly. In fact, I have found that the Pinehaven membership is some of the most dedicated and enthusiastic group of people I have had the pleasure to know and work with.

The district got it's first EMT-B's in February, 1996.  I believe there are currently six EMT Basics including one RN, who are currently licensed, but I am sure there will be many more.  There are also 12 First Responders within the district.

The current administration is:

Bob Merrill, Chief
